What are the raw materials of cosmetics


Cosmetic raw materials are divided into two categories - matrix raw materials and additives. Matrix raw materials are the main body of formulating various cosmetics, that is, basic raw materials. There are oil raw materials, wax raw materials, hydrocarbon raw materials, synthetic oil raw materials, powdery raw materials, colloidal raw materials, coagulants, surfactants, etc.

1. Auxiliary raw materials and additives are substances that form and stabilize cosmetics and impart color, fragrance and other specific effects. These substances are small but important in cosmetic formulations. Including, flavors, colors, preservatives, antioxidants, cosmetic nutritional additives.

2. Cosmetic wax raw materials Waxes are primary alcohols of higher fatty acids, which are divided into vegetable waxes and animal waxes. Vegetable wax (such as carnauba wax) is the hardest one among cosmetic raw materials, and is widely used in lipstick and cream products. Among the animal waxes, the most important ones are spermaceti (used in lipsticks and ointments), as well as beeswax, lanolin and their derivatives.

3. Cosmetic hydrocarbon raw materials are a class of carbohydrates obtained by refining natural minerals. In cosmetics, it is a solvent to prevent the evaporation of water on the skin surface and improve the moisturizing effect. Commonly used cosmetic hydrocarbons are: liquid paraffin, solid paraffin, microcrystalline paraffin, ozokerite, and petrolatum.
